A shooting incident in Wolverhampton has left one man dead and another critically injured, sparking a manhunt for the perpetrator. The two victims were found in a car on Leicester Street in Whitmore Reans, with the incident taking place at around 03:10 BST. The man in his 20s succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the other man in his 30s was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening wounds, where he remains in a critical condition as of Friday evening.
The West Midlands Police have launched an investigation into the incident, urging the public to steer clear of the area as several roads have been closed off in the aftermath. The West Midlands Ambulance Service revealed that despite efforts from both police and paramedics, they were unable to save the deceased victim at the scene. The second victim, also in a critical condition, was treated on-site before being transported to the hospital for further medical attention.
In response to the shooting, the police have been granted additional powers in Whitmore Reans, allowing them to conduct stop and search operations in specific areas. Known as Section 60 powers, this measure permits officers to search individuals without the need for reasonable grounds, and will remain in effect until Saturday morning.
