Lisburn murder: Barry Furfey, 42, named as victim of Wardsborough Road attack

The man who was tragically murdered in Lisburn has been identified by police as 42-year-old Barry Furfey. He was discovered with serious injuries at an apartment building on Wardsborough Road in the city center on Monday morning. Despite receiving medical treatment at the scene, he later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. A 38-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man have both been arrested in connection with the murder and are currently in police custody.

Detective Inspector Jill Angus stated that the individuals in custody are cooperating with investigators as they seek information related to the case. She expressed her condolences to Barry’s family as they grapple with the heartbreaking loss. While a police cordon was initially in place on Monday night, it has since been lifted. On Tuesday morning, besides a lone police officer in the building’s foyer, there was minimal police presence at the apartment complex.

In response to the tragedy, friends of the deceased have left floral tributes at the entrance of the building where the incident occurred. Members of the local community, including SDLP’s Pat Catney, expressed their concerns about the violence happening so close to home. Sinn Féin Councillor Declan Lynch described the man’s death as “tragic” and extended his sympathies to the victim’s loved ones. Alliance councillor Nicola Parker also conveyed her sadness over the incident and offered her support to the victim’s family during this challenging period
