Agnes Wanjiru's murder: Kenya's high court issues arrest warrant for British national

A British national suspected of murdering a 21-year-old woman more than a decade ago in Kenya is now facing an arrest warrant issued by the Kenyan High Court. The family’s lawyer, Kamau Mbiu, expressed gratitude for the ruling, emphasizing the importance of transparency in the proceedings, which he deemed a matter of public interest.

The identities of the accused and witnesses were ordered to remain confidential by the judge to safeguard the trial’s integrity. A UK government spokesperson conveyed condolences to Agnes Wanjiru’s family and reiterated the commitment to assisting them in obtaining justice. The Ministry of Defence in the UK affirmed cooperation with Kenya’s investigation into the case, generating uproar in the East African nation.

Agnes Wanjiru’s family, who have been advocating for justice, reside in Nanyuki near the British Army Training Unit Kenya (Batuk). The victim’s niece, Esther Njoki, described the warrant as a bittersweet development, recognizing that the extradition process may be time-consuming. The prosecution assured the court of making witnesses in the UK available for the trial to progress, as urged by the family’s legal representative, Tessa Gregory, for swift extradition and trial in Kenya
