Neil Canney, a 37-year-old man, was tragically murdered in a horrific shooting incident on his mother’s doorstep. The chilling attack took place at the property on Nairn Road in Greenock, Inverclyde, where Canney mistook someone in a group outside as a friend. Little did he know that opening the door would result in a hail of bullets being fired into the house, with one ultimately striking him in the head. After a trial at the High Court in Glasgow, seven men were found guilty in connection with Canney’s murder. Jack Benson, Dale Russell, Martin McCusker, Brendan Balloch, Kieran Hendry, Michael Munro, and Kieran Meechan all faced charges relating to the brutal crime.
