A popular deodorant brand recently issued an apology following reports from customers who experienced itchy, burning sensations in their armpits after using certain roll-on products. Mitchum’s 48-hour roll-on anti-perspirant and deodorant led to complaints on social media about “agonising weeping spots”, redness, and irritation among users. Some individuals even expressed feelings of wanting to “rip my armpits out” or likened the sensation to their underarms being “on fire.”

The company acknowledged the issue and expressed deep regret, attributing the problem to a change in the manufacturing process that affected specific 100ml batches sold in the UK, Ireland, and South Africa. In response, Mitchum immediately took steps to remove the affected products from store shelves to prevent further discomfort for consumers. Despite the incident, the brand emphasized that there have been no alterations to the formula of its products, stressing that the problem arose from a modification in its manufacturing procedure.

Steph Buttery, a long-time Mitchum customer from Manchester, shared her negative experience with the brand’s aerosol Powder Fresh deodorant on TikTok. After developing a red, itchy rash and noticing an unpleasant odor following the use of the deodorant, she decided to switch to a different brand. As one of several individuals who posted videos on social media detailing their encounters with the problematic products, Steph highlighted the importance of finding an alternative that suited her better. Mitchum has not included aerosol deodorants in the list of affected items, aiming to clarify potential confusion surrounding the situation.

The brand’s spokesperson reiterated their sincere apologies for the temporary discomfort experienced by some customers, emphasizing their commitment to resolving the issue promptly. They assured users that steps had been taken to rectify the problem, including reverting to the original manufacturing process to prevent similar incidents in the future. Mitchum encouraged those affected to reach out to its customer service team for assistance in addressing any concerns or issues stemming from the use of the affected products
