Six individuals, comprising five men and a 17-year-old boy, have received life sentences for the murder of 21-year-old drug dealer Janayo Lucima. Their conviction was handed down at the Old Bailey on 16 July. Lucima, who had a prior prison stint in 2021 for assisting in dismembering a musician, was fatally shot in the chest when he opened his front door in Kensington last year, in what was described as a deliberate, premeditated act related to a drug dispute. The attack occurred after 22-year-old Khuder Al Kurdi enticed Lucima out of his residence in Barons Court, where gunman Mohamed Mansaray was lying in wait.
The convicted perpetrators included Mohamed Mansaray, 18, from Neasden, who received a minimum 27-year imprisonment term, and Khuder Al Kurdi, 22, from Barons Court, who was sentenced to a minimum of 33 years due to his key role in orchestrating the murder. Muktar Said, 24, from Hammersmith, got a minimum sentence of 29 years, while Issa Siteri, 19, from Kensington, and Yusuf Abdi, 19, from Westminster, were each given at least 28 years and 28 and a half years, respectively. Additionally, a 17-year-old boy was sentenced to at least 22 years. Two other defendants, an adult and a minor, will face a retrial in 2026 due to the jury’s inability to reach a verdict in their cases.
During the five-month trial, Judge Simon Mayo KC commended the exceptional poise and composure displayed by Mr. Lucima’s family in court. He expressed regret to the family for the defendants’ lack of remorse, as they grinned and chuckled while being sentenced. In an earlier statement, Mr. Lucima’s mother Winifred Ayo lamented the loss of her son, describing him as someone with aspirations who was callously taken from them by individuals engulfed in a culture of violence and devoid of regard for human life
