Man arrested after two women die five months apart

A man, aged 40, has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder following the deaths of two women in London, which occurred five months apart. The Metropolitan Police stated that the cause of death could not be determined for Carmenza Trujillo, 53, who was discovered unresponsive in a building in Walworth in March, and Sheryl Wilkins, 39, who was also found unresponsive on a road in Tottenham in August.

The man was initially arrested on 1 April on suspicion of murder and was released as the investigation into Ms. Trujillo’s death continued. However, he was later rearrested on 4 September after Ms. Wilkins passed away. Detective Chief Inspector Neil John expressed his condolences to the families of both women, mentioning that they are receiving ongoing support from the police.

In response to a call about an unresponsive woman, the Met attended a building in Aylesbury Estate on 17 March. Despite receiving treatment from emergency personnel and paramedics, Ms. Trujillo was declared deceased at the scene. A similar situation unfolded on 24 August when Ms. Wilkins was discovered unresponsive on High Road, Tottenham, and was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector John emphasized the importance of women feeling safe in the city, acknowledging the potential concerns arising from these incidents. The investigation is being conducted rapidly and is a top priority for law enforcement. Individuals with information relevant to either case are encouraged to reach out to the authorities promptly. Reports can be submitted by calling 101 and quoting the reference number 1721/24AUG, while anonymous tips can be provided to Crimestoppers
