West Drayton: Five arrests after protests at migrant hotels

The Metropolitan Police reported that five individuals were taken into custody following an incident where a group of masked men tried to enter a hotel in west London that housed asylum seekers. The attempted intrusion occurred at the Crowne Plaza located on Stockley Road in West Drayton, where the men also caused damage to security fences, as per the Met’s statement.

On the same day, two opposing groups, one supportive and the other against asylum seekers, marched towards the Crowne Plaza with approximately 500 participants each around midday. Meanwhile, similar protests and counter-demonstrations unfolded in various parts of England and Scotland.

In Falkirk, Scotland, numerous pro and anti-immigration protesters gathered outside a hotel accommodating asylum seekers, while rallies were also held in locations such as Warrington, Skegness, Barnwood in Gloucester, and Portsmouth. These demonstrations occurred following the Court of Appeal’s decision to lift a temporary injunction preventing the Bell Hotel in Epping from accommodating asylum seekers, leading to protests and subsequent arrests.

In the midst of the unrest, a separate protest faction moved towards the Novotel on Cherry Lane in west London, with police presence in the vicinity. Subsequently, some individuals from the group also headed towards a nearby Holiday Inn. Despite the tense situation, law enforcement managed to contain the crowds and make multiple arrests, including charges for assault on officers, affray, and violent disorder. Cdr Adam Slonecki emphasized the importance of upholding the peace while respecting the right to peaceful protest, affirming that further arrests will ensue if criminal acts persist
