A spokesperson for HSBC issued an apology to affected customers and reassured them that the systems are now being closely monitored. The outage prompted a flurry of social media posts from customers highlighting the inconvenience they experienced. Some described the situation as “very worrying,” particularly as it coincided with the closure of numerous bank branches in the UK over the past few years.

In 2022, HSBC announced the closure of 114 branches in the UK, sparking concerns among customers about the bank’s commitment to accessible services. However, the bank later made a pledge not to shutter any additional branches until 2026.
