Karen Gillan, the Scottish actress, has announced that she will be starring in a new version of the 80s cult classic movie Highlander alongside Henry Cavill. The former Doctor Who star, who hails from Inverness, shared on Instagram her excitement about the role, stating that her dialect coach won’t be needed. Gillan expressed her thrill at portraying a Highlander in the upcoming movie.
In the reboot of the original 1986 film that depicts a battle between immortal warriors, Karen Gillan will take on the character of Connor McLeod’s wife, played by Henry Cavill. The original movie featured French actor Christopher Lambert as The Highlander and Sir Sean Connery as Ramirez. The filming for the updated version is scheduled to commence in Scotland in September.
Having relocated to Los Angeles with her American spouse, Gillan expressed her desire to work more frequently in her homeland, Scotland. She mentioned that she is more inclined to accept roles that involve filming in Scotland as she always seeks opportunities to return to her native country. Gillan shared her excitement about bringing her daughter, Clementine, who was born in December, to Inverness with her on her upcoming job.
Karen Gillan’s upcoming project, The Life of Chuck, was filmed before she gave birth last year in December. Adapted from the novella by Stephen King, the movie also stars Tom Hiddleston and Chiwetel Ejiofor alongside Gillan and Mark Hamill.
