Shazad Khan, a man known as an “ice cream man,” tragically lost his life due to a fatal stabbing in north-West London. The Metropolitan Police was alerted to the incident at Monks Park in Wembley at around 18:10 BST on Tuesday. Despite receiving medical attention for his stab wounds, the 41-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crime. Authorities promptly took action by arresting a 31-year-old woman on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, followed by the detainment of a 26-year-old man in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Both suspects are currently in police custody awaiting further investigation.
Local resident Asim Mahmood Butt, 39, residing in Tokyngton Avenue nearby, shared insights about the victim, Shazad Khan, who was renowned for vending ice cream in the area. Butt mentioned that he and Khan were childhood friends, emphasizing Khan’s popularity as the local ice cream seller. Speaking from the scene, Butt recounted, “This guy, we know him – he’s a famous ice cream guy. He got stabbed yesterday. I know his brothers as well – they’re all local. We all used to play cricket and football here in Monks Park. He started (selling) ice cream about a year ago.” He further noted that Khan’s ice cream van, parked at the scene during the incident, was recognizable for featuring a large teddy bear.
According to another witness, who opted to remain anonymous, the ice cream van was removed from the location during the early hours of Wednesday. Following the heinous crime, a forensic tent was set up, and Metropolitan Police officers were observed operating within a restrictive police cordon in Monks Park. Additional vehicles were dispatched to tow away a separate white van and blue car from the vicinity. Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams expressed condolences to Shazad Khan’s family and friends during this incredibly challenging period. While acknowledging community concerns stemming from the incident, Williams reassured the public that current intelligence does not indicate a broader threat. Authorities urged anyone possessing pertinent information about the case to come forward and assured heightened police presence in the area to support ongoing inquiries.
