South East Suffolk Coroner’s Court heard in May that Miss Mitchell suffered multiple injuries to her face and body before being hit over the head.
Documentation read out during the hearing revealed Burnett had “vowed to uphold harm” and “kill her” to a friend in the hours before her death, and had been in contact with her during the day.
When he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly on 19 August last year, he allegedly told officers: “I’ve killed her.”
Humberside-born Miss Mitchell moved to Ipswich as a child and was a talented writer and musician.
Her father, Peter Laney, said: “Whenever she smiled the world turned brighter and all those who knew her were privileged.”
“Courtney was wickedly funny, fun, fierce and extremely loyal,” he added.
