Constance Marten is currently seeking permission to appeal against her conviction for gross negligence manslaughter. The Court of Appeal has received an application on behalf of Marten, following the discovery of her baby girl Victoria’s decomposing body in a shopping bag in Brighton in 2023. Marten, along with her partner Mark Gordon, was found guilty at the Old Bailey in July after a lengthy retrial during which the judge accused them of attempting to undermine and manipulate the proceedings.
An earlier attempt by Marten to appeal against a conviction of cruelty to a child from her initial trial was dismissed in February 2025. In addition to the recent gross negligence manslaughter charge, the couple was also found guilty of concealing the birth of a child and perverting the course of justice by failing to report her death during the first trial.
