Six jailed for 'out of control gangsterism' in Edinburgh and Lothians

A gang described as “out of control” has been sentenced to jail for multiple violent incidents, including attempted murders and arson attacks on prison officers’ vehicles. Michael Heeps, John Murray, Lee Ridgway, Dale Bauld, Damien Mullen, and Ryan McGovern were involved in a series of attacks in and around Edinburgh from late 2022 to early 2023. These attacks resulted in severe injuries to multiple victims, with one man suffering a nearly severed hand and another ending up in intensive care.

During the sentencing at Glasgow High Court, Heeps received 23 years, Murray was given 17 years, Ridgway was sentenced to 22 years, Bauld received 17 years, Mullen got 14 years, and McGovern was jailed for eight years. These men were found guilty of various crimes such as attempted murder, wilful fire-raising, and attempting to pervert the course of justice. At one point, prosecutors suggested a connection to serious organized crime, but this was later removed from the charges.
