A security guard at a hotel housing migrants was allegedly assaulted by a woman after a resident walked into her flat, according to the Metropolitan Police. The incident involved a migrant in his early 20s who has also been arrested on suspicion of assault.
On Wednesday, a video started circulating on social media showing a man entering a house after being instructed to “go back to the hotel”. The man was subsequently apprehended by members of the public in the vicinity. Channay Augustus, 22, who resides in the flat that was accessed, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon, affray, assault on an emergency worker, common assault, and possession of cannabis.
The charges of affray and common assault are linked to an altercation that occurred at the Britannia Hotel in Canary Wharf later that same evening, as confirmed by the police. The hotel has been a focal point of protests in recent weeks, with the victim of the common assault being identified as a security guard at the establishment. Ms. Augustus, a resident of Tower Hamlets, is scheduled to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Meanwhile, the migrant was arrested in the Hackney area in the early hours of Friday morning on suspicion of common assault. A statement from the police confirmed that he is the individual who allegedly entered the flat. Currently, he is in police custody as the investigation continues
