US Vice-President JD Vance has made his way to Scotland as part of his visit to the UK, where he plans to enjoy a private family holiday. It has been reported that Vance will be staying at a luxurious country estate located in the outskirts of Kilmarnock in Ayrshire. Upon his arrival, he landed at Prestwick Airport on Air Force Two and was expected to be driven to Hulford in a motorcade.
This comes shortly after President Donald Trump’s recent visit to Scotland, where he indulged in some golfing activities at his courses in Turnberry and Aberdeenshire. Vance’s accommodation during his stay will be at Carnell Estates, a sprawling estate stretching over 2,000 acres of land, featuring a 14th-century tower and a 10-bedroom mansion. Located about a 40-minute drive from Trump’s Turnberry golf club, the estate has already seen a significant presence of police officers with road closures in place.
During his time in the UK, Vance met with US troops at the Royal Air Force Base in Fairford, Gloucestershire, and received a briefing on the base’s capabilities. Additionally, he engaged in discussions with various political figures, including David Lammy, Robert Jenrick, Chris Philp, and Nigel Farage, covering topics ranging from international affairs to domestic policies. Notably, Lammy has referred himself to a watchdog after photos surfaced showing him and Vance participating in recreational activities without the necessary fishing license.
Despite previous criticisms of Scotland’s buffer zones around abortion clinics, Vance has expressed a deep connection to his Scottish heritage by labeling himself as a “Scots-Irish hillbilly at heart.” This sentiment comes from his ancestors’ roots in the Appalachian region of the US dating back over three centuries.
