Hundreds march in London urging release of hostages held in Gaza

In a show of solidarity and support for Israel, hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of central London over the weekend. Led by Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis and the Jewish direct action group Stop The Hate, protesters waved Israeli flags and held placards with images of hostages still held in Gaza.

The demonstration highlighted the protesters’ opposition to the UK’s plan to recognize a Palestinian state in September if certain conditions are not met by Israel. According to some attendees, this move would be seen as a “reward for Hamas.” Tensions briefly escalated during the protest, resulting in a few arrests for assault and disorderly behavior.

Adam Ma’anit, who lost family members in the Hamas-led attacks on Israel, emphasized the importance of freeing the remaining hostages. He criticized the UK government’s handling of the situation and urged for more efforts to be made towards achieving their release.

Despite the UK government’s ultimatum to recognize a Palestinian state, protesters at the march demanded a stronger focus on securing the release of the hostages in Gaza. Concerns over rising antisemitism in the UK were also evident among demonstrators, with many calling for an end to Jew hatred and expressing fears for their safety in the country. The event drew attention to the ongoing crisis in the region, with calls for immediate action to address the situation
