A woman was taken into custody by law enforcement during an anti-racism march in Belfast city center. Reports indicate that the 62-year-old individual was apprehended in Linenhall Street on a Saturday afternoon on suspicion of possessing items that show support for a banned group. The woman was wearing a T-shirt with the phrase “We are all Palestine Action”, which led to her detainment.
Additionally, two men received cautions for the same offense related to support for Palestine Action, which was outlawed in July under the Terrorism Act. In a separate incident, a 43-year-old man was arrested for disruptive behavior during the demonstration. Amnesty International described him as part of a “minor anti-immigration counter protest.”
A similar demonstration in London resulted in the arrest of over 365 individuals who were showing solidarity with Palestine Action. The participants displayed handmade signs with the statement “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action”. The decision to proscribe the group came after activists vandalized RAF Brize Norton in June, causing significant damage to aircraft and property.
