Hundreds join anti-immigration protest in Nuneaton

An anti-immigration protest outside Nuneaton Town Hall attracted hundreds of participants over the weekend. The demonstration included a march through the town centre, where people were seen waving flags and chanting. Similar protests took place across England on the same day, marking a wave of action.

The rally was organized following comments made by George Finch, the leader of Warwickshire County Council, regarding two men charged with raping a 12-year-old girl in the town. Finch alleged that the men were asylum seekers, although this information could not be independently verified by the BBC. The majority of protesters dispersed by 15:00 BST, and the event concluded without any major incidents.

Participants in the protest gathered outside the town hall at 13:00 BST, voicing anti-government sentiments while displaying the England flag, the union jack, and homemade signs. Warwickshire Police were present at the event, engaging with some protesters. A small group of counter-protesters also attended, but they were eventually moved on after being surrounded by the larger gathering.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage later called for police forces across the UK to disclose the immigration status of charged suspects, following accusations made by Mr. Finch against Warwickshire Police and the Home Office. The protest in Nuneaton was part of a series of similar events held in various cities such as Bristol, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Leicester, and Birmingham, according to Stand Up To Racism. Additionally, the Metropolitan Police made over 200 arrests at a separate demonstration in London in support of the proscribed group Palestine Action
