Bhim Kohli, an 80-year-old man, tragically passed away on September 2nd following a brutal attack while walking his dog. The incident occurred in September when he was punched and kicked by a 14-year-old boy while a 12-year-old girl filmed the assault. This came just two weeks after Mr. Kohli had witnessed another Asian man being racially abused and assaulted in the same vicinity by two other boys.
In a distressing revelation, it has been disclosed that the police had information regarding the identities of the individuals involved in the previous assault immediately after it happened, but they did not make any arrests until after Mr. Kohli’s death. Ms. Kohli, the daughter of the deceased, blames the delay in police action for her father’s untimely death. She expressed her belief that if the authorities had acted promptly, her father might still be alive today.
Furthermore, during the trial of Mr. Kohli’s assailants, it was revealed that the convicted girl had participated in other incidents targeting Mr. Kohli before his death. Shockingly, a video she filmed showed another Asian man being racially abused. Despite these disturbing incidents, the police report stated that there were no missed opportunities that could have prevented Mr. Kohli’s death.
In response to the allegations of delayed action and inaction by the police, Chief Superintendent Jonathan Starbuck of Leicestershire Police acknowledged the concerns raised by Ms. Kohli. He assured that proactive measures were being taken to address anti-social behavior in the Franklin Park area, where the attacks occurred. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) reviewed Leicestershire Police’s report and found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing by officers or staff. However, the IOPC highlighted the importance of accurately recording and addressing incidents of anti-social behavior to prevent such tragedies in the future
