Two young men’s lives drastically changed after a horrific crash that left one without legs and the other facing legal consequences. Adam Golebiewski, an 18-year-old footballer, lost both his lower legs in a crash involving his friend Arran Paterson in Macduff, Aberdeenshire. Paterson, who was 19 at the time, admitted to dangerous driving, driving above the legal alcohol limit, and driving without insurance during the incident.
Despite the challenges he faced, Adam walked into court with prosthetic legs after undergoing intense rehabilitation. He expressed his desire to move forward and find joy in life once more. The crash that occurred in Macduff’s Union Road involved three passengers, all of whom suffered significant injuries. Adam bore the brunt of the impact, leading to the amputation of his lower limbs. His road to recovery involved three months of rehabilitation at Woodend Hospital in Aberdeen, during which he managed to regain his ability to walk on crutches. Despite the intense pain and challenges, Adam remained thankful for the support of his family throughout his ordeal.
As the legal proceedings unfolded, Adam stood strong, walking into Aberdeen Sheriff Court unassisted alongside his family and friends. Paterson pleaded guilty to all charges, acknowledging his role in causing serious harm through dangerous driving.
