David Lammy to host US Vice President JD Vance at country residence

Vance and his family are currently in the UK for a private vacation, with plans to explore the Cotswolds and visit Hampton Court Palace during their stay. Chevening, a Grade 1 listed mansion with sprawling gardens that include a lake and a maze, has been traditionally available for use by UK foreign secretaries.

Lammy and Vance, who have been meeting regularly on official trips since Lammy assumed his role last year, share a bond over their mutual Christian faith. The foreign secretary previously attended mass at Vance’s residence in Washington during an official visit in March, and now Vance is reciprocating by staying at Chevening with his family. Lammy expressed their connection, mentioning their shared working-class backgrounds and experiences with addiction in their families, as well as their faith, as factors that bring them together.

The upcoming bilateral meeting between Lammy and Vance, to be held before their families join them at Chevening, marks another opportunity for the two officials to strengthen their relationship and discuss key issues.
