The cause of a 13-year-old girl’s drowning at a theme park in Florida remains unknown after an inquest failed to determine how it happened. Anna Beaumont, hailing from St Fagans, Cardiff, tragically passed away while snorkelling at Discovery Cove theme park in Orlando back in May of the previous year. This information came to light during a documentary inquest conducted at the South Wales Coroner’s Court in Pontypridd, Rhondda Cynon Taf, just recently.
During the inquest, Coroner Kerrie Burge explained that there was no proof suggesting that Anna, who had a past history of childhood epilepsy, experienced a seizure prior to her passing. The official ruling was that she died as a result of being submerged in water. The circumstances leading up to Anna’s death were revealed during the proceedings, noting that she had been snorkelling with her father but was later found unresponsive without her snorkel, with traces of blood and water in her mask.
Despite efforts made by lifeguards at the scene to resuscitate her, Anna did not regain consciousness and was subsequently transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, where she ultimately passed away on the 29th of May. A post-mortem examination conducted at the hospital concluded that the cause of Anna’s death was drowning, followed by a seizure disorder. The inquest initially began in June of the preceding year due to Anna’s medical history related to childhood epilepsy. Anna, a student at Radyr Comprehensive School, was fondly remembered by her family as “a beautiful soul” following her untimely demise
