Government plans to bring more Gazan children to UK for treatment

Damian Grammaticas, a Political Correspondent, shares that plans are underway to evacuate more seriously ill or injured children from Gaza to the UK for medical treatment. The government is moving quickly to implement this plan, aiming to have it in operation within a few weeks. While the exact number of children involved remains unclear, reports suggest that up to 300 young individuals may receive free medical care in the UK.

Despite some children from Gaza already receiving private medical treatment in the UK through Project Pure Hope, the government has yet to evacuate any children via its own scheme during the conflict. The Hamas-run health ministry reports that 175 individuals, including 93 children, have died from malnutrition. The UK has been actively providing funds for the treatment of injured Gazans and collaborating with Jordan to deliver aid to the territory via airdrops. Additionally, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has signaled the UK’s intention to recognize a Palestinian state in September unless substantive actions are taken by Israel to address the dire situation in Gaza
