Trump back on the golf course for day two of Scottish visit

Donald Trump is set to spend his second day in Scotland on the golf course before engaging in trade discussions with the EU Commission president. Despite the rainy weather, the US president is anticipated to play another round of golf at Turnberry in South Ayrshire, accompanied by guests and family members, including his son Eric. The primary business meeting of the day is scheduled with Ursula von der Leyen to discuss “transatlantic trade relations and how we can keep them strong.”

Upon arrival in Scotland on Friday evening, Trump expressed his excitement about being in Scotland and complimented Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and First Minister John Swinney ahead of their upcoming meetings. The European Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, met with First Minister John Swinney on Saturday, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome in Scotland. Furthermore, as Trump prepares to meet with Starmer and Swinney on Monday before unveiling his new golf course at Menie in Aberdeenshire, discussions are anticipated to involve the reduction of tariffs on British goods entering the US. Swinney sees the meeting as an opportunity to advocate for Scotland on trade matters and the expansion of US business in the region, intending to address significant international concerns like the situation in Gaza.

As Trump’s stay in Scotland comes to an end, he is expected to head back to Washington on Tuesday, with plans for an official state visit to the UK scheduled for September.
