Watch: CCTV shows moment thief stole £24,000 of wine

A London restaurant fell victim to a heist carried out by a pedicab driver, resulting in the theft of £24,000 worth of wine from its cellar. The culprit, identified as 61-year-old Iuliu Kubola, admitted to committing three counts of burglary in relation to the incident. Surveillance footage from 6 June captured Kubola utilizing a wheelie bin to transport numerous bottles of wine from the restaurant to his vehicle parked outside.

Following his initial theft, Kubola revisited the restaurant on 15 June and managed to snatch three additional bottles of wine. However, during his final attempt on 19 June, he left empty-handed. Authorities arrested Kubola three days later after a City of London Police officer spotted him by chance, recognizing him from a briefing. Kubola is awaiting sentencing, scheduled for September, for his crimes.

The brazen actions of the pedicab driver highlight the audacity with which he carried out the burglaries, making off with a substantial amount of valuable wine from the restaurant’s cellar. The ease with which Kubola managed to breach the establishment’s security measures serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance when safeguarding valuable assets like wine collections. The upcoming sentencing in September will hopefully bring a sense of closure to the restaurant owners affected by the theft.

City of London Police emphasized the role of vigilant law enforcement in apprehending criminals like Kubola, who thought they could get away with their crimes. The quick actions taken by authorities to identify and detain Kubola underscore the importance of cooperation between law enforcement and the community in maintaining public safety and holding perpetrators of criminal activities accountable for their actions
