Maguiresbridge shootings: Vigil for Vanessa Whyte and James and Sara Rutledge

A male individual, who resides in the same household, is currently receiving treatment for severe gunshot wounds at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. James and Sara, former students of the school, are at the heart of this gathering.

The Village Rural Development Association has taken the initiative to bring the community together during this challenging time. A vigil is scheduled to take place on the school grounds at 19:00 BST to honor the victims and support their loved ones. First Minister Michelle O’Neill expressed shock and sadness over the situation, emphasizing the importance of unity in addressing violence against women and girls.

The late Ms. Whyte, originally from Barefield, County Clare, was a dedicated employee at Stormont’s Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs. She was remembered as a devoted mother and a diligent colleague during her time at Lakeland Vets in Derrygonnelly, County Fermanagh. Her children, James and Sara, attended Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, where a support facility has been established for the school community.

In the wake of this tragedy, Defenders of the Rock decided to cancel their annual band parade in Lisbellaw to show respect for the victims. The incident, which occurred in a rural area not far from Enniskillen, resulted in the loss of three lives and left one individual injured. Police are actively investigating the case, with a suspected triple murder and attempted suicide as one of the leads being pursued
