Trump has faced criticism for playing golf during times of global crisis

In an era of big tech dominance and economic uncertainty the president’s business dealings are under intense scrutiny.

The 75-year-old former reality TV star has successfully fought attempts in Congress to obtain his tax returns and there are signs that US prosecutors are losing patience. Illness-free he will be 78 in September and the looming investigation, not to mention his legal battles with women who accuse him of sexual assault, might be part of the reason he appears focused on golf as he nears his 80th year.

More than that, some people are asking whether he should be in Scotland at all

Given the allegations swirling around his connections to Jeffrey Epstein should Trump even be mixing his business with politics at all?

What Trump says about his mother – the hard-working young immigrant – rings true. Since the death of her husband Fred in 1999 Mary Anne MacLeod Trump embraced life on the golf course and endeavoured to be a billionaire in her own right.

What drove her to be the best? She clearly passed some skills on to her son.

But at times like these, questions about the public profile of the president and the allegations surrounding his business partners must be asked.

Is the 45th president of the United States taking his eye off of the ball, so to speak, by focusing on golf rather than the crises at home and abroad.

And by the time Trump leaves Scotland with all its challenges for America, a new crisis might dominate the headlines as he wheels his golf cart back along the runway at Prestwick airport heading homeacross the Atlantic. Or will he?
