Drivers at Edinburgh Airport are finding strategic ways to avoid paying high drop-off fees by parking in lay-bys near the main terminal building. With drop-off charges on the rise at many of the busiest airports in the UK, more than half have increased their fees in the past year, according to research by the RAC. Caroline O’Brien, one of the drivers parked in a lay-by, recounts being charged £24 for under 30 minutes in the drop-off zone previously, leading her to seek alternatives this time. She emphasizes the need for fair pricing for pick-up and drop-off services, suggesting a nominal fee for the short duration it takes to drop off or pick up passengers. Meanwhile, Rontom Tschopp from Switzerland expresses surprise at the concept of drop-off charges, as his local airport does not have such fees, highlighting the contrasting practices between countries.
