The planned 48-hour strike at Glasgow Airport scheduled for next week has been called off by a spokesman, it was announced. Originally, around 100 workers were expected to participate in the industrial action next Thursday over a pay dispute. Among the members of the Unite union who were set to walk out were airside support officers, engineers, and managers.
The Glasgow Airport spokesman mentioned, “We have been informed by Unite that the planned industrial action for 24 to 26 July has been suspended to allow for further dialogue regarding our pay offer of 4%.” This development comes as a relief, especially considering that the strike would have coincided with the traditional Glasgow Fair fortnight and the airport’s busy summer season.
This decision to suspend the strike is crucial as it falls during the first summer holiday season following the acquisition of the airport by AviAlliance. In January, AviAlliance completed a £1.53bn deal to purchase AGS, the company that owns Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Southampton airports. Efforts for further comment from Unite have been made but are yet to receive a response.
The resolution to put a hold on the industrial action provides an opportunity for both parties to engage in discussions and reach a consensus on the pay offer.
