Paris is not the only European city that has embarked on a mission to revitalize its waterways. In Copenhagen, Denmark, efforts to transform the city into a year-round urban swimming destination were successful after cleaning up the once-toxic harbour. Thanks to improved plumbing infrastructure and a decrease in heavy industry, the harbour became safe for swimmers in the early 2000s, attracting locals who are not deterred by the cold winter waters.
