Suitcase trial: Murder accused says victim threatened his family

Chloe Harcombe reporting from Bristol and Beth Cruse from Woolwich Crown Court, bring the story of a man accused of murdering a couple and dismembering their bodies. Yostin Mosquera, 35, denies the murder charges of Paul Longworth and Albert Alfonso at their London flat. According to Mosquera, Mr. Alfonso would force him to perform extreme sexual acts against his will, threatening his family in Colombia if he tried to leave.

Mosquera previously admitted to the manslaughter of Mr. Alfonso due to loss of self-control. The court was informed that Mosquera allegedly stabbed Mr. Alfonso to death during a recorded sex session. Additionally, he stands accused of killing Mr. Longworth with a hammer and hiding his body in a divan bed before dismembering both bodies at Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. Mosquera claimed in court that Mr. Alfonso was the one who killed his partner.

The jury heard how Mr. Alfonso paid Mosquera to make and send videos of himself performing sexual acts, which escalated in extremity over time. Despite feeling sad and empty, Mosquera continued the acts for money and support from Mr. Alfonso. The defendant mentioned feeling controlled and mistreated by Mr. Alfonso after moving to London, where the couple entered a civil partnership in 2023.

During the night of the murder, Mosquera claimed to overhear a disturbance between the couple in the bathroom, and he believed Mr. Alfonso was responsible for Mr. Longworth’s death. The fear of retaliation from Mr. Alfonso led Mosquera to stab him during a sexual encounter. The defendant expressed feeling overwhelmed and fearful for his own life during the events leading up to the fatal altercation. The trial is ongoing, with more details set to emerge as proceedings continue
