Drugs den transformed

Liverpool City Council’s Landlord Licensing team, in conjunction with Merseyside Police, successfully transformed a drug den in Anfield into a safe and compliant property. After receiving complaints about the property on Manningham Road in 2022, the council took action to address the issues.

The evidence showed that the house had become a hub for Class A drug use and supply, causing disturbances and violence in the neighborhood. Residents were relieved when the property was closed under the anti-social behaviour, crime, and policing act, leading to an immediate improvement in the community.

Following the closure, the council worked with the landlord to refurbish the property, which is now occupied by responsible tenants. A recent inspection in June 2025 confirmed its compliance with licensing conditions. This successful transformation highlights the effectiveness of Liverpool’s Landlord Licensing scheme in raising housing standards and enhancing community cohesion.

Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Hetty Wood, commended the scheme for its role in improving the quality of rented homes and creating a safer environment for residents. Chief Inspector Andy Fielding of Merseyside Police praised the partnership between the police and the council in protecting communities and combating drug-related harm and anti-social behavior. Their collaborative efforts aim to create safer and stronger streets for all Liverpool residents.
