Sir Jake previously represented the Lancashire constituency of Rossendale and Darwen from 2010 until 2024 when he lost his seat to Labour. Throughout his time in Parliament, he was known as a close ally of Boris Johnson and held various positions including serving in the Cabinet Office and as the Northern Powerhouse minister.

The decision by Sir Jake Berry to join Reform UK showcases a growing trend of former Conservative members moving towards different political alignments. His switch, along with others before him, reflects a desire for change and a dissatisfaction with the current state of Westminster politics
