'Largest ever' cannabis farm found in former Kirkcaldy college campus

Scotland’s largest illegal cannabis farm has been discovered inside a former college building, marking a significant find for law enforcement officials. The Nairn Building, a part of Fife College’s Priory Campus in Kirkcaldy, was the site of the massive operation where about 5,000 cannabis plants were seized during a recent police raid. The street value of the class A drug was estimated to be around £12 million, making it one of the most substantial drug busts in the country.

Detective Inspector Samantha Davidson of the police described the illegal cannabis farm as the most significant cultivation ever witnessed in Scotland. She emphasized the scale and organization of the operation, noting the potential for a multi-million-pound profit through illegal means. Law enforcement officials remain committed to investigating the cultivation operation and using all available resources to disrupt the production and supply of controlled substances.

Originally a former mill, the Nairn Building underwent a transformation when it was acquired by Fife College before closing its doors to students in 2016. Subsequently, the building was sold to developers with plans to redevelop the site into residential flats, a gym, and retail spaces. Despite a planning application being submitted in 2021, the building has remained vacant, serving as a clandestine location for the large-scale illegal drug operation. The investigation into the illegal cannabis farm continues as authorities work to dismantle drug-related activities and prevent future criminal operations
