Police have made their 50th arrest in connection with a gangland feud that has resulted in assaults, shootings, and arson attacks, mainly across the eastern and western regions of Scotland. Yusef Duale, 18, has been accused of wilful fire-raising, endangering life, and attempted murder following incidents at three different properties in Edinburgh. The targeted addresses in Pitcairn Grove, Prestonfield Crescent, and Niddrie Marischal Crescent were all subjected to attacks on the same day, April 17th. Duale, who hails from Liverpool, did not enter a plea and was subsequently released on bail after a private court appearance in Edinburgh.
The ongoing investigation, known as Operation Portaledge, was initiated in response to a string of violent occurrences that began in March. Chief Constable Jo Farrell of Police Scotland mentioned that the authorities are actively pursuing leaders of criminal groups who are believed to be based abroad and involved in the feud. The feuding parties have been identified as two rival crime families, the Daniels, and the Lyons, each connected to the series of attacks that have taken place recently. The deaths of Eddie Lyons Jnr, 46, and Ross Monaghan, 43, in a bar in Fuengirola, Spain, last month sparked speculation about potential ties to the ongoing violence in Scotland.
Law enforcement officers have conducted extensive investigations, including visits to thousands of homes and stopping hundreds of vehicles across Scotland. Incidents involving gunfire in Niddrie and other parts of the city reflected the escalating violence. In April, a deliberate arson attack was carried out at a residence in Hay Drive, Niddrie, resulting in the spread of the fire to a neighboring property. Subsequently, the violence extended westward, leading to more arson attacks and serious assaults, one of which resulted in the hospitalization of a 72-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy following an attack at a residence in Egilsay Crescent in Glasgow’s Milton neighborhood.
Several arrests have been made thus far, with a majority of those apprehended being men under the age of 30, including teenagers. The escalating feud has raised concerns about the safety and security of communities in both eastern and western Scotland, with authorities working tirelessly to combat the criminal activities that have plagued these regions.
