Two women die after incident at Yr Wyddfa Watkin Path pools

Tragedy struck in Eryri national park as two women lost their lives in a devastating incident. The heartbreaking event unfolded in Nant Gwynant, Gwynedd, on Wednesday evening. The area, which is part of Eryri National Park, is more commonly known as Snowdonia, Wales’ largest national park.

According to officials from North Wales Police, the distressing situation involved one woman being pulled from the water while another was reportedly in the water at the pools located along the Watkin Path. This particular path is a popular route that leads to the summit of Yr Wyddfa, the highest mountain in Wales. Despite efforts to rescue the second woman from the water, she tragically succumbed to the situation and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.

Det Ch Insp Andy Gibson expressed heartfelt condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and sympathies remain with the families and friends of both women.” As investigations into the incident are currently ongoing, any potential witnesses are being urged to come forward with any information they may have. Following the distressing occurrence, a coordinated response was activated, involving a mountain rescue team, air ambulance, police personnel, and a coastguard helicopter being dispatched to the scene in an attempt to provide assistance
