Parents are outraged and seeking answers after it was discovered that a pedophile, Daniel Clarke, could have abused numerous disabled and special educational needs children while employed as a teaching assistant. The West Midlands Police investigation suggests that over a decade, Clarke may have targeted more than 81 vulnerable young individuals. Although he was recently convicted for offenses against six children, authorities suspect he could be one of the most prolific sex offenders in recent memory. Clarke had significant safeguarding responsibilities at two council-operated schools as of September 2023, where action was taken promptly once concerns arose.
In February, Clarke admitted guilt to various charges, including producing indecent images of children, physically assaulting children, and encouraging children to engage in sexual activities without penetration. He also previously served as a personal assistant to multiple children and oversaw online safety at Forest Oak and Merstone schools before his arrest in October 2024. Starting as a teaching assistant in 2016, Clarke worked at these outstanding Ofsted-rated schools that are separate entities but share resources under an executive head teacher.
Concerns about Clarke were reportedly raised three months before his arrest by staff and parents at Forest Oak. Some argue that the school failed to act appropriately, allowing Clarke to continue despite potential red flags. While the local authority stated that it informed the police immediately upon learning of concerns about Clarke, they have not disclosed when these concerns originated or if an internal inquiry will be conducted.
