Help Shape the Future of Carer Support in Liverpool

Liverpool City Council is reaching out to the community during Carers Week (June 9 – 15) to encourage feedback on a new Strategy aimed at enhancing support for unpaid caregivers. The Council is interested in hearing thoughts on its draft All-Age Strategy, which is intended to influence future services across Liverpool. Carers Week serves as a time to celebrate and acknowledge the crucial contributions of unpaid caregivers who provide vital assistance to their family, friends, and loved ones. It also serves as an important opportunity to listen, learn, and take significant action.

The draft strategy, which was created with input from caregivers, professionals, and local support services, outlines a vision focused on improving the lives of unpaid caregivers in the city of Liverpool in the long term. The primary goals are to increase awareness, provide better access to support, and ensure that caregivers are acknowledged, respected, and included in decisions that impact them directly. Caregivers in Liverpool often face challenges as they manage caregiving alongside other responsibilities such as work, education, and family life. Many caregivers may not even recognize themselves as such and might be unaware of the available resources and assistance. This strategy aims to address these challenges by responding to real-life experiences.

Liverpool City Council is inviting caregivers, residents, and community organizations to review the strategy and participate in a public consultation by completing a survey. The input received will play a crucial role in shaping the final version of the strategy to ensure that it effectively caters to the needs of those it aims to support. Margaret, who cares for her sister Anne, expressed her thoughts by stating, “I’ve been caring for Anne most of my life. I help her with self-care and assist her with dressing and eating. We have fun together, but it does take its toll as I don’t get to focus on myself much.” Through consultations and feedback, Liverpool City Council aims to create a strategy that values and respects the tireless work done by caregivers on a daily basis
