Body found in Portugal in search for missing stag party Scot Greg Monks

The search for a Scottish man who went missing in Portugal has come to a tragic end as a body has been discovered. Greg Monks, 38, disappeared while on a stag party in Albufeira, Algarve, last week. He was last seen leaving the main strip in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Hailing from Cambuslang near Glasgow, Mr. Monks had traveled to the resort with friends on May 27.

The body of a man was found in the Cerro de Aguia area, according to the Portuguese national Policia Judiciaria. Mr. Monks’ disappearance was reported to the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) on May 28. Cerro de Aguia, where the body was found, is about 3.1 miles (5 km) from the main Albufeira strip where Mr. Monks was last spotted by his friends.

The identity of the body is yet to be formally confirmed and an autopsy will be conducted in due course, as stated by the Polícia Judiciária. Friends and supporters who were involved in the search for Mr. Monks have expressed their condolences on a Facebook page set up following his disappearance. The Foreign Office has stated that they are in touch with the local authorities and are providing assistance to Mr. Monks’ family during this difficult time
