A tragedy unfolded as a young teenager who vanished during a family vacation was discovered to have tragically drowned, according to findings presented during an inquest.
Athrun Lombardo, a 16-year-old who was reported missing on May 10 while on holiday with his family in Llandudno, sparked a widespread search effort involving land, sea, and air resources. Described as a teenager with autism, dyspraxia, and complex needs, Athrun was last sighted at the West Shore of the resort sporting only his blue swimming trunks.
Following an extensive four-day search operation, Athrun’s lifeless body was recovered from the sea, with confirmation of his passing provided by a paramedic at Conwy lifeboat station. Home Office pathologist Dr. Jonathan Medcalf later determined that drowning was the likely cause of the teenager’s death after conducting a post-mortem examination.
During the opening of the inquest, Senior Coroner John Gittins revealed that Athrun and his family had been visiting the grandparents of Mrs. Lombardo in Llandudno. The Lombardo family, hailing from Pinkers Mead in Emersons Green, Bristol, had been lodged at an Air B&B during the tragic incident. The inquest proceedings were adjourned to a later date for further investigations to take place
