Arrest after policeman injured by car in Rusholme Manchester

A man has been detained by Greater Manchester Police following an incident where a police sergeant was injured in what is believed to be a hit-and-run. The officer, who remains unnamed, sustained injuries to his legs after being caught between two vehicles during the altercation. The alleged hit-and-run took place on Frodsham Street in Rusholme at around 6:00 PM on Friday, with the driver of the car reportedly reversing into the officer multiple times before fleeing the scene, according to the police force.

In response to the incident, a 41-year-old man has been taken into custody and is facing charges of assault, dangerous driving, and failing to stop, as stated by GMP. Assistant Chief Constable Steph Parker expressed her well wishes for her injured colleague’s swift recovery and strongly condemned any form of violence against law enforcement officials. She emphasized that such assaults not only harm the officers but also hinder their ability to fulfill their duty of serving and protecting the public.

Assistant Chief Constable Parker highlighted the daily risks faced by frontline officers as they work to maintain community safety and respond to emergencies. The injured GMP sergeant is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital, with his injuries reported as not life-threatening or causing permanent damage. An investigation has been initiated to further look into the incident, and the police are urging individuals with any relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry
