In Manchester, a tragic incident occurred where a three-year-old girl, Louisa Palmisano, known as Lulu, was hit and killed by a van driven by Rawal Rehman. The devastating event took place on Mosely Street in the city center when the van crashed into a tram, causing Rehman’s vehicle to mount the pavement and strike the young victim. Despite the efforts to save her, Louisa later passed away in the hospital.
Prior to the fatal crash, Rehman had indulged in at least 20 lines of cocaine and visited two massage parlours in the city. Following the collision, he fled the scene, only to be apprehended by authorities the following day after a search operation. The 36-year-old, residing in Lambton Road, Manchester, was subsequently sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at Manchester Crown Court.
During the court proceedings, CCTV footage of the incident was presented, showing Louisa walking hand in hand with her parents before the tragic event unfolded. Rehman, donning his hood, was seen exiting the van, retrieving his phone, and leaving in search of a taxi immediately after the crash. The court also learned about Rehman’s prior criminal history, including a previous jail sentence in 2017 for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Despite Rehman’s eventual admission of guilt and intention to surrender himself to the authorities, the family of the deceased expressed their profound grief and loss. Louisa’s parents described her as the “centre of our world,” highlighting her joyful spirit, vivid imagination, and kind heart that had touched everyone around her. They mourned the loss of their only child, emphasizing the irreplaceable void left by her absence, stating that her promising life ended far too soon
