Brian Eno to donate fee from Windows ‘95 chime to Palestine aid

Musician Brian Eno has recently penned an open letter to Microsoft, urging the tech giant to divest in Israel. Eno announced that he would be donating the fee he received for composing the Windows ’95 chime to aid in Palestine. He expressed his disappointment in Microsoft, stating that he never imagined the company would one day be involved in activities that contribute to oppression and conflict.

Eno highlighted in his letter that Microsoft’s support of operations that violate international law is concerning. He pointed out the company’s involvement with Israel’s Ministry of Defence, providing them with software and professional services. This support, according to Eno, backs a regime that has been criticized by legal scholars, human rights organizations, and various governments for its genocidal actions.

Calling on fellow artists, technologists, and musicians to join him, Eno emphasized the importance of standing in solidarity with Microsoft workers who have spoken out against the company’s actions in Palestine. He revealed his intention to donate the original fee he received for composing the Windows chime to aid victims in Gaza. Eno’s call to action aims to support those affected by the ongoing conflict and bombardment in the region.
