Kneecap accuse Met of “political policing” following Mo Chara terrorism charge

Irish rap group Kneecap has voiced their discontent with the Metropolitan Police following the charging of one of their members with a terrorism offense on May 21. The member in question, Mo Chara (real name Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh), was charged under the UK Terrorism Act for allegedly showcasing a Hezbollah flag during a performance at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, London, last November.

In a statement shared on Twitter on May 22, Kneecap expressed their denial of the offense and their intention to vehemently defend themselves against the charges. They criticized the situation as “political policing” and accused authorities of using the anti-terror law against them for displaying a flag that was thrown onto the stage, rather than focusing on more critical issues like genocide.
