Cunard’s newest ship, Queen Anne, will be making a return to Liverpool’s River Mersey on Bank Holiday Monday, 26 May, after a spectacular naming ceremony at Pier Head. This marks the start of celebrations across the Cunard fleet, in honor of the 185th anniversary of the line’s first transatlantic crossing from Liverpool back in 1840. With crowds expected to gather on both sides of the river, the ship’s arrival coincides with Liverpool hosting the LFC Premier League Champions Parade later that same day, making for an exciting event.
Queen Anne’s presence at Cruise Port Liverpool on Monday from 1200 onwards will serve as a magnificent backdrop to the parade celebrations once the Reds’ motorcade reaches the waterfront. This visit holds a special significance for Cunard, as the ship was dedicated to the city of Liverpool at her naming ceremony last June. Following this, on Tuesday, 27 May, HRH The Princess Royal will pay a visit to the ship to mark the official commencement of the 185th celebrations.
A unique photographic exhibition entitled Sea of Glamour, curated by renowned photographer and filmmaker Mary McCartney, is set to open at the Royal Liver Building later that day. Featuring 185 images that trace the Cunard timeline and showcase milestones in the line’s maritime history and its special bond with Liverpool, the exhibition promises to be a captivating reflection of Cunard’s legacy. The 185th image will specifically depict the five Liverpool Icons chosen to represent the city at the Queen Anne Naming, adding a personal touch to the display.
Queen Anne’s visit to Liverpool forms part of a Round Britain voyage, with the ship arriving from Glasgow and departing on the evening of 27 May headed for Dublin then Cobh, Ireland before returning to Southampton on 1 June. Mary McCartney expressed her enthusiasm for curating the Sea of Glamour exhibition, highlighting the rich history and shared experiences among Cunard passengers that have shaped the line’s legacy over the past 185 years
