A photographer in the West Midlands has dedicated a decade to exploring the wildlife in his back garden. Andrew Fusek Peters captured the beauty of Britain’s diverse wildlife through his lens. He aimed to showcase the everyday stories of birds, mammals, and insects that coexist with humans, resulting in a stunning collection of images featured in a new book.
Most of the photographs were taken in his own garden and local village, emphasizing that nature’s wonders can be found close to home. Despite facing criticism from photographers who focus on exotic locations, Peters found joy in capturing the beauty of blue tits and red squirrels in his everyday surroundings. His dedication led him to rare moments like a baby hare suckling from its mother on a domestic lawn, a sight rarely seen worldwide.
After battling bowel cancer in 2018, Peters focused on perfecting his photography techniques to capture birds and butterflies in flight. Using his kitchen as a hide, he managed to snap unique images of birds with rainbow-like wings. Peters emphasized the importance of creating wildlife-friendly spaces, urging people to appreciate and protect garden visitors that are equally vital as creatures in more remote habitats.
