Charged with the murder of Daniel McClean is a 50-year-old man, who allegedly shot Mr. McClean multiple times on February 2, 2021, while he was sitting in a car in the driveway of a property located on Cliftonville Road in north Belfast. The victim, who was also in his 50s, had previously been identified as a dissident republican during court proceedings in 2019.
In addition to the murder charge, the man is also facing charges for the attempted murder of a 49-year-old man in west Belfast. The incident took place on February 23, 2025, when the 49-year-old man was sitting inside a taxi in the Bell Steel Manor area. The accused is also facing firearms offences in connection with both incidents.
The man is scheduled to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to address the charges against him. While he had previously been arrested on suspicion of the 2018 murder of Jim Donegan, authorities have stated that he has since been released unconditionally.
