When Liam Payne passed away last year, he left behind an estate worth more than £24m, including money, property, and possessions, as revealed by official records. The One Direction singer died at the age of 31 in Argentina in October without leaving a will behind.
In the absence of a will, the rules state that any children would usually inherit the estate if there is no living spouse or civil partner. Payne had a son, Bear, with former Girls Aloud singer Cheryl, who he was with for over two years. Cheryl, along with music industry lawyer Richard Bray, have been appointed as administrators of Payne’s estate. However, they have limited authority at the moment and are not able to distribute the assets.
Payne tragically passed away after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires at the age of 31. Charges of criminal negligence against three out of five individuals involved in his death were dropped by an Argentinian court in February. His death came as a shock to the music world and the millions of One Direction fans around the globe.
According to probate documents, Payne’s estate had a total gross value of £28.6m, which was reduced to £24.3m after accounting for debts and expenses. Cheryl and Bray have been granted limited representation to manage the estate until a general grant is issued. This grant gives them the power to preserve Payne’s assets until further decisions can be made regarding their distribution
