Brian Eno, Ben UFO and Jyoty sign open letter calling on Field Day to distance itself from KKR

A group of over 100 artists, ranging from electronic musicians to various other talents, have united to release a public appeal to Field Day. The purpose of this plea is to urge Field Day to sever any associations with KKR, the investment firm that owns their parent company, Superstruct. The artists are asking Field Day to publicly disassociate themselves from KKR’s investments, specifically highlighting the firm’s involvement in weapons manufacturing companies, the Coastal GasLink pipeline, and Israeli corporations operating in Palestinian territories.

Led by the femme collective Sisu Crew and supported by previous Field Day performers like Midland, DEBONAIR, and I.JORDAN, the artists are calling for a clear stance from Field Day against KKR’s investments. They are also emphasizing the importance of upholding the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) guidelines, which have the support of organizations like the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI). Among the notable signatories to this initiative are Brian Eno, Mr. Scruff, Pangaea, and members of Massive Attack.

The impetus for this letter stems from Boiler Room’s recent statement distancing itself from KKR and expressing solidarity with Palestine. Superstruct, a company acquired by KKR in 2024, has faced backlash from artists who have pulled out of festivals and events under their ownership. The coalition of artists behind this open letter hopes to engage in constructive dialogue with Field Day to ensure ethical programming and adherence to BDS guidelines.

The artists are calling on Field Day to take decisive action by publicly stating their position on KKR’s investments, adopting an ethical programming policy, and engaging with artists and staff on these critical issues. By expressing their concerns and offering their support, the artists are seeking to uphold principles of freedom, safety, dignity, and accountability within the music industry
